Annual herb, up to 2 m tall. Stem glabrous, glaucous, climbing, terete, fistular. Leaves alternate, paripinnately compound; petiolate, ca. 3.5 cm long, fistular; blade paripinnate with 1-4 pairs of leaflets, rachis ending in branched tendril; leaflets 2-5 cm x 1-2.5 cm, ovate, margin entire or dentate; 2-4 distal pairs of leaflets modified into tendrils; stipules ca. 5.5 cm x 3 cm, foliaceous, obliquely ovate, margin toothed below, entire above, semiamplexicaul base. Inflorescence 1-3-flowered axillary raceme; peduncle shorter than stipules, ca. 4 cm long; flowers bisexual, zygomorphic, 5-merous, perigynous; bract small, +/- ovate. Calyx 1-1.5 cm long, campanulate; teeth 5, longer than the tube, unequal, 7-8 mm long, ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, acuminate, apex hairy; tube oblique at base. Corolla papilionaceous, white with pale green veins, ca. 2 cm long and 3 cm across; vexillum ca. 2 cm x 3 cm, broadly obovate with a short claw, emarginate, mucronate; wings ca. 2 cm x 1.5 cm, claw ca. 7 mm long, limb ca. 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm, +/- orbicular with 2 oblique ridges near its base, attached with keel by a narrow lobe; keel ca. 1.5 cm x 0.7 cm, clawed. Stamens 10, diadelphous, vexillary stamen completely free; staminal tube ca. 7-8 mm long, not oblique at apex, filaments (free part) nearly equal to staminal tube, slightly dilated distally, filament of vexillary stamen dilated proximally; anthers uniform, ca. 1 mm long, oblong, dorsifixed, longitudinal dehiscence. Ovary subsessile, glabrous, unilocular, many-ovuled, placentation marginal; style curved inward, laterally compressed, bearded lengthwise on inner side distally; stigma subterminal. Legumes 4-12 cm x 1.2-2.5 cm, compressed, oblong, inflated, apex acute, 2-valved, 2-10 seeded. Seeds subglobose.
